WHUPC: The Draw

May 16 - 24, May 2005

Hello all from Barcelona! Updating you from Hotel Marina. Later today is the draw for the heads up tournament.

Last night I checked out the Casino Barcelona where the Party Poker WHUP Championship will be held. The first person I met there was Rolf "Ace" Slotboom, I introduced myself and we chatted for a bit. There were a few games of poker going on; some 20/40 LHE and 5/10 PLO. The Omaha game seemed the most interesting as there were some people playing really trash hands - but what do I know? Omaha high isn't really my game - yet! ;)

A couple of TV screens were showing re-runs from last year's WHUPC. I have to say that it looks easier on the telly than it really is. Having said that, I believe that even someone who loses in Round 1 would have had a significant chance to win in the final. Luck plays an important in heads-up - whether it is getting good cards, hitting flops or drawing out. It's the deciding factor between 2 opponents of similar skill.

Hiya Trix,

great job on posting the full draw on the blog - I looked all over the place before coming here. Didn't think you would have time to update in Spain.

I can't find any mention of this Leigh guy you're gonna play in Rd1. He doesn't figure in the Mob database which is pretty comprehensive so my guess is he's a net qualifier. I could be totally wrong of course ...

Some interesting match-ups including some mobster in-fighting with Ram vs Ross B., Padraig vs Beevers and Pascal Perrault vs Rumit.

Also, Mark Banin must be pleased to draw Dave Colclough in Round one!! :p

Anyway mate, GOOD LUCK!!!!! I know you can do it. Check-raise bluff this guy's ass off the planet - who needs cards?

Actually, ignore that and play your 'A' game :) and keep me up to date if you have the time.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRIX!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the best,

Spud
